The jury consisted of Elizabeth Hainen, Principal Harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra Julie Smith, Principal Harpist of the San Diego Symphony and Mary Kay Waddington, arranger of the Suzuki Harp School series. The Lyon & Healy Awards are open to all harpists who have not passed their 30th birthday by March 1, 2021.

Sykes received a full scholarship to the University of Arizona, where she studied harp with Carrol McLaughlin.During her summer and winter breaks, she toured around the world performing on cruise. They will also be presented in a joint recital at Lyon & Healy Hall in Chicago. On debut in the United States, she won awards in 1986 and again in 1988 at Lyon & Healy’s International Jazz and Pop Harpfest. Each received a $2,000 prize, along with a $500 Lyon & Healy gift certificate and a winner’s plaque. Helen Gerhold(Lansdale, PA), Rachel Hall (Cleveland, OH) and Ann Marie Liss (Aurora, CO) were chosen as the winners from 27 participants. Lyon & Healy announced three winners of its Lyon & Healy Awards, which took place June 14 and 15, 2013, preceding the American Harp Society Summer Institute at the Colburn School, in Los Angeles.
